There is no "opportune time" to get sick. I am sick now. Hopefully it will only be a day or two thing. Seriously though, if you're a busy person, getting sick doesn't just suck, it also messes up tons of stuff in your life. Even though I don't have an event today or tomorrow, just two days have totally messed up this week.
I couldn't do cross country practice last night or this morning, which is REALLY frustrating for me. I'm trying to make varsity this year, or get strong enough that I'll make it next year. So, even more that it used to, every missed practice feels like a missed opportunity to improve and a failure to my team, my coach, and myself. I couldn't miss school yesterday, since I had a big unit test in AP US history. I did miss today, which isn't, "a big deal", since there were no major tests or assignments due. But it is a big deal, because tomorrow, if I'm well enough to go to school, I'll have to get whatever lessons I missed from teachers or friends, and make up the homework that I missed. It doesn't sound like a lot, but when you're taking 3 college level courses, it is.
I'm also a little worried about this weekend. I have my first cyclocross race of the season, the opener of the
Sac CX series (super fun venue and group of people, go check it out if you're in the area). Later in this season I hope to be racing the awesome new
Grammo Paru CX bike. Even bigger for me, I have
my first downhill race. EVER. I have been dabbling in DH for a while now, but I haven't been able to fit in a race. Until now. I am super stoked for this, and to have to worry about not being 100% really makes me angry. Especially since I have friends from all over the state coming to the race. If you've kept up with my blogs, over the summer I went to the
National Interscholastic Cycling Associations Invitational training camp. Some of my friends from the camp will be at the race, and we'll get to ride, hang out, and RACE! It'll be interesting for us to compare times. Since most of us only race against each other in the high school cross country mountain bike races, I've never seen many of these guys outside of that discipline.
I know it's no

t just me who gets really frustrated with little injuries and sicknesses. A little cold cannot even compare with
Asa's injury (Badly fractured femur from a crash in
Whistler), I can't even imagine what I would do. My longest injury was actually shortly before my very first blog, when I was out of commission for about 3 weeks from stitches in my shin. I could go on and on about how any little injury or illness messes up an athlete in so many ways, but I think everyone already knows it; I guess that this has just been my little rant for the day. Anyway Illness/Injury (anything taking time away from daily life) SUCKS!!
I'll keep you posted.
