The views were absolutely incredible, riding along mountain tops, cliffs, and exposed faces on the side of mountains. The entire time you could see the enormous Mount Shasta dominating the horizon. I wish I would have had a helmet cam to capture the views. There were also some really cool rest stops, such as a large fresh mountain stream running down some giant rocks.
Out of 17 riders we had 12 flats, not including the one on the shuttle truck when it was being driven off the mountain. But we still had a great ride, because if you’re going to flat why not do it where you can sit on the side of a cliff with a view like a screen saver and fix the tire.
My
Grammo Toa was a great bike for the day; the 29 inch wheel is really stable and rolls so nicely. The Toa and I managed to stay rubber side down the entire ride, and there were a couple of spots where a mistake would result in a few hundred foot fall onto rocks! Good thing everyone stayed up.
It was a pretty big group ride, and there were some really interesting characters out there. I definitely need to give a shout to Dave Patterson (AKA Fish) for giving me a hand with some shifting problems at the outset of the ride. Thanks again dude! Anyway, it was a great ride and just a great day! Hope everyone’s been having a great summer. I’ll keep you posted!
