It has been a great summer here in the Harrison household in good old Chicago….Jerome raced Ironman Roth in Germany in July…and I raced some local Triathlons and Eagleman 70.3 in Maryland and then spent a big chunk of the summer training for the Chicago marathon and doing some cross training on my new Grammo! I had a nice time running with a purpose and riding without a purpose! What a novel concept!
The new Grammo is lovely! THE PINK makes me very, very happy!! Since I didn’t have to race any Triathlons for the 2nd half of the summer I was able to enjoy the road bike and not worry about maintaining my TT position in order to race…, so that was a special treat. I am rarely on my road bike in the summertime due to TT races, so this summer was an exception!
Sadly, when I woke up on the Chicago Marathon day it was 72 degrees with expected highs in the mid 80s and humid – a red alert day here in Chicago. Oh DAMN DAMN DAMN! Not a day to PR in the marathon, but I tried my best and didn’t hit my goal of sub 3.10 (7.10 pace) but I ran just about 9 minutes slower. So, needless to say I was devastated but I took some time off and allowed myself to process the race and move on. However, I decided I was going to race another marathon before the end of 2010 – and I will be able to bury that PR, let’s hope!
And, I am starting Triathlon training tomorrow…back on the computrainer, TT bike and swimming pool….and also keep on training for this upcoming marathon…so lots going on here. I am working on my 2011 schedule, which will include a LOT of races…I age “up” next year and want to GO BIG…so stay tuned as I get on a new TT bike and pick some huge races to hammer through in 2011!
